동명사

동명사

- 동사가 명사의 역할을 함

- 형태 : 동사 + ing

- 문장 안에서 명사처럼 주어, 목적어, 보어 로 쓰임

- ' ~ 하는 것, ~ 하기 ' 로 해석

- to 부정사와 달리 명사로만 사용

- 예시

• study  >  studying,  talk  >  talking

1. 만드는 법

1-1)  대부분의 동사

- 동사 원형 + ing

• ask  >  asking
• send  >  sending

 

1-2)  e 로 끝나는 동사

- 동사에서 e 빼고 + ing

• ride  >  riding
• make  >  making

 

1-3)  ie 로 끝나는 동사

- ie 를 y 로 고치고 + ing

• lie  >  lying
• die  >  dying

 

1-4) 단모음+단자음으로 끝나는 동사

- 끝자음 하나 더 쓰고 + ing

• run  >  running
• stop  >  stopping

2. 문장에서의 역할

2-1) 주어

- 보통 문장 맨 앞에 나오면 주어임

- ' ~ 은, ~ 는, ~ 이, ~ 가 ' 로 해석 되면 주어임

- 동명사의 주어는 단수 취급함

- 예시

• Having pets is a lot of work.
• Reading novels is my hobby.
• Cooking pasta isn't easy.
• Swimming is a good exercise.

 

2-2) 보어

- 예시

• My job is teaching English.
• I saw him crossing the road.

 

2-3) 목적어

- 동명사를 목적어로 사용하는 동사

: enjoy, keep, practice, avoid, deny, finish, give up, quit, imagine

: 예시

• I enjoy meeting my friends.
• Dan enjoys shopping for new clothes.

3. 동명사 부정 만드는 법

- 형태 : not + 동사 ing

- 예시

• Not eating breakfast is bad for your health.
• I'm sorry for not keeping the promise.

4. 자주 쓰여서 단어로 굳어진 동명사 + 명사

be (=get) used to + V-ing	~ 하는데 익숙하다	My grandma is used to using the computer.
look forward to + V-ing	~ 하는 것을 학수고대하고 하다	I look forward to seeing you again.
keep (on) + -ing	계속 ~ 하다	Keep walking. You will get there soon.
keep (= stop) A from + -ing	A가 ~ 하는 것을 막다	Can you keep your brother from watching TV ?
go + -ing	~ 하러 가다	My family always go camping every weekend.
be busy + -ing	~ 하느라 바쁘다	He is busy working.
feel like + -ing	~ 하고 싶다	I feel like dancing !
spend + 시간/돈 + -ing	~ 하는데 시간/돈 을 소비하다	I usually spend 30 minutes getting ready for school. He spent 20 dollars buying a pair of shoes.
cannot (= can't) help + -ing	~ 하지 않을 수 없다	I can't help thinking about the movie. It was too sad.
How (= What) about + -ing	~ 하는 것이 어때 ?	How about playing soccer tonight ?
be good at + -ing	~ 을 잘하다	I am good at drawing people.
be poor at + -ing	~ 을 못하다	She is poor at math.
be interested in + -ing	~에 관심이 있다	We are interested in joining the singing group.
be worried about + -ing	~ 에 대하여 걱정하다	My mom is worried about cooking for 30 guests.
